I found myself making use of the very early morning hours, where I could slip out of bed before anyone else had woken up, put on a pot of coffee, and tip toe to my favorite chair in our family room. There, I would scribble down my thoughts and ideas while sketching out new designs and enjoy a few brief moments of knitting in the quiet while I waited for the sun to rise through the glass balcony doors next to my chair. It became my ‘First Light’ ritual. I was yearning for a simple stitch pattern that would translate these morning practices into a tangible garment that I could drape around my shoulders during my early morning work hours of the chilly Fall and Winter seasons. The stitching itself, became a meditation, and in between the slipping and knitting of stitches, I found myself glancing up and down from my knitting, anticipating the very moment when the sun would peak up over the trees and the beautiful cascading colors of the valley we live in would glisten from the fresh morning dew as soon as the sunlight would appear.

If you are new to the world of mosaic knitting, this design consists of a simple and intuitive stitch pattern that is extremely beginner friendly.
