I designed the First Snow Hat for my lovely future mother-in-law to wear in the chilly Canadian mountain winters. It’s a super cozy and warm cable knit hat, worked up in alpaca yarn. It looks complex, but with a simple 6-round repeat, it’s a breeze!

Level: Advanced Beginner

Skills: ribbing, cable knitting

Yarn: 2 skeins of KnitPicks Simply Alpaca Aran (note: yarn is listed as aran, but knits more like a DK, so I held it double. If substituting, either choose a DK weight to hold double, or a worsted/aran weight to hold single.)

Needles: size 4 (3.5mm) 16” circular and size 8 (5mm) 16” circular, size 8 (5mm) cable needle

Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle, faux fur pom pom

Gauge: 10cm x 10cm = 20 st x 18 rows in cable repeat pattern
