This sweet little dress for the American Girl doll knits up quickly. The simple lace pattern is knitted on size 9, 8, and 7 needles starting at the bottom so that the skirt has a little extra “swing”. The crochet hook is only used to slip stitch or single crochet along the neck and arm edges. (That can be omitted if you don’t crochet.)

Cascade 220 Superwash is a lighter weight worsted so you may want to substitute a DK weight yarn rather than Red Heart SuperSaver. SuperSaver is a heavier worsted and the dress would appear too bulky if knitted in that.

As of January 9, 2012, I’ve updated the pdf file so that the correction would appear in the new pattern download. This was a minor correction.

February 2011: The darling Bitty Baby dress pictured in the bottom photo is a modification of the 18” doll dress. Changes made to the pattern by bethgross are noted on her project page. Great job, Beth!

August 2011: Twocables has modified the pattern by working only the first seven rows then continuing in stockinette stitch. Her version came out just darling! See her project page for details.

October 2011: Heatherbella knitted the Fishtail Lace Sundress for her new Waldorf doll. She has some modifications to make to the next dress that you can read about on her project page. She also knitted the dress in the round.
