Five Elements Hat
The Five Elements Hat takes its inspiration from the Chinese Five Elements—earth, wood, metal, fire, and air. These five fundamental forces interact with each other, balance each other, and transform one another. I’ve translated that idea into a hat with distinct motifs based on the classic symbols for the elements.
The result is a hat that is interesting to knit and easy to adapt to different color palettes. Made with worsted-weight yarn at 5 stitches per inch, it’s a flattering hat that is also a relatively quick project.
Worked from the bottom up, the hat can be worn as a comfortable beanie or with a little extra slouch. The pattern includes instructions for adjusting the length, so you can make it exactly the way you like to wear it.
