Sometimes as a designer, you have an idea that ‘almost works’, this is one of those projects. I wanted a hat that covered my ears, had mohair that didn’t directly touch my skin, didn’t allow snow down the back of my neck and had a nice fit between my neck and coat collar. Sounds easy, right? It wasn’t! I would work on the design, do some test knits and in frustration it went to the back of the closet several times over the last 5 years. Then while watching a documentary on Roman arches, the light bulb went off and I had the solution to the hoodie. It’s easy to knit, adaptable to worsted or chunky weight yarns and meets all my quirks for comfort. It has a slip stitch bottom edge so it stays close to the neck. There are lots of ways to accent the design with buttons or beads along the contrasting rim or by adding pom poms or tassels to the ties. Don’t limit yourself to holiday colors, I love mine in woodland green and brown tones. Be prepared for gift requests from family and friends. Bit of hand sewing required to stabilize the trim.
Details: can use worsted doubled (250 body and 70 trim) or chunky weight (125 body and 35 trim) yarns. Needle size 11 circular and 11 DP for I-cord ties.
