Fjäll is a cosy and fun scarf inspired by the colours and shapes the designer Sara Ottosson sees when hiking among the Swedish mountains in autumn. The scarf features exciting marled intarsia, great for playing with colours, relaxing rib stitch and easy-to-memorise increases and decreases that form the triangular shapes. Featuring soft alpaca bouclé, it is a warm hiking companion regardless if you are walking along quiet hillsides or bustling streets.

MATERIALS
Yarn: 
Yarn 1: Highland by Isager (100% Peruvian highland wool, 300 yds / 275 m – 50 g). MC: 1 ball in the colourway Stone.

Or approx. 300 yds / 275 m of light fingering-weight yarn. 

Yarn 2: Bouclé by Isager (100% alpaca, 190 yds / 175 m – 50 g). CC A: 1 ball in the colourway 28. CC B: 1 ball in the colourway 98. CC C: 1 ball in the colourway 62. CC D: 1 ball in the colourway 11.

Or approx. 190 yds / 175 m in each CC of bouclé yarn. 

Alternative yarn suggestions are for example Saga by Filcolana or Lamull by Rauma Garn (for MC) and Alpaca Bouclé by Kremke Soul Wool (for CC).

Needles: US 13 / 9 mm 32” / 80 cm circular needles.

Notions: Stitch marker, US L-11 / 8 mm crochet hook (for CO).

GAUGE
11 sts x 15 rows to 4” / 10 cm on US 13 / 9 mm needles in 1x1 Rib with one strand of MC and two strands of CC held together, worked flat, after blocking.

NOTES
The scarf is worked flat from end to end in 1 x 1 Rib with marled block stripes and intarsia. MC is used throughout, held together with two strands of CC: one strand creates the block stripes, while the other is worked in intarsia using an invisible join to create large triangles. The triangles are shaped using increases and decreases. Divide each CC ball in two equal balls = 25 g each. These will be referred to in the pattern as A1(2), B1(2) and so on. Mark one ball in each colour to separate 1 and 2, the ones marked 1 will be used for the block stripes and the ones marked 2 will be used for the intarsia.
