These jaunty purl flags are in full flight. They fly to the left and to the right, off a sturdy mast of garter stitch!

The Flags in Flight Scarf & Cowl design was inspired by a 17th-c sock in the collection of the National Museum of Denmark. A photo of the sock is featured on the Fashioning the Early Modern website http://tinyurl.com/Decorative-sock-texture

The stitch pattern for the Flags in Flight Scarf is a variation of the original stitch pattern. The scarf is reversible.

The Flags in Flight Cowl design uses a version of the original stitch pattern on the museum collection sock.

Pattern was professionally tech edited by Robin Melanson.
