This easy afghan strip pattern developed from 1912 Fleisher’s Knitting and Crocheting Manual, p.153, is just knit and purl stitches. There are 4 pattern rows and 2 of them are “knit to end”. There are two 12-stitch garter stitch sections bordering a 12-stitch, 4-row section. Blocked or unblocked, this pattern would make a great scarf or afghan.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

68 yards of Mary Maxim Natural Alpaca yarn will make 10 inches of a 36-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
