These fingerless mittens flirts a bit with mosaic and twined knitting. The cuff uses the mosaic technique and the details at the thumb gusset is often used in twined knitting.
The mitten is knitted with two strands of yarn in main colour, alternating them just as you would when using two colours in stranded knitting. This makes the mitten a bit thicker and warmer, and there is need for two strands when making the gusset details.
If you want you could just knit it in stockinette using only one thread, just bare in mind the gauge may change.

This is a perfect project to use up some scrap yarn.

The mittens are knit in the round using double point needles. You can alter the size of the mitten by using bigger or smaller needles.
If the mitten feels too small you can add a couple of stitches in the sides, or ad a few extra rounds before the thumb gusset starts/ends.
Finished meassures of the mitten is: 17 cm width, 13 cm to the thumb and 5 cm from the thumb to the top. The thumb is 2,5 cm.

You will need:
2,0 mm double point needles
2 stitch markers (for the thumb gusset)
Tapetsry needle to weave in the ends
White yarn 50 g (Main colour=MC)
Scrap yarn 20 g (Contrast colour =CC)
CC 1Purple
CC 2 Light blue
CC 3 Dark blue

I used two ply wool yarn measuring 300 m/100 grams (sport)
The whole mitten weighs about 75 grams.
Gauge: 32 stitches and 32 rows =10 x 10 cm (stranded part)
