The Flock Cowl

This simple knitting pattern is a great gift for anyone on your list! Knit bottom up, it’s so much fun to watch the little sheep emerge from the wool.

Pattern includes both DK & worsted weight options. DK is knit at 24 sts/4”, worsted at 16 st/4”. Both produce a cowl that is 24” circumference.

You’ll need a little less than 1 skein of the main color, and 1/2 skein of the contrast color. I personally like a bold contrast for this cowl, but a soft contrast would be intriguing also.

Directions are both written and charted, and I’ve included both dark main color & light main color charts & directions.

Skills needed:
Knit, purl, stranded color work, catching floats occasionally

I’ve recently started a part-time office job & have to elevate my “look” a little from Yoga-Teacher-Mom attire. But I still love to have a touch of whimsy in my everyday wardrobe. Sometimes it’s red shoes, other days, it’s little sheep that can only be spotted up close.
The Flock Cowl provides that little bit of an inside joke for me. From a distance, the sheep just look like a graphic design element. But up close, you see their true nature. Their quirky little selves.
When Melissa, from knittingthestash.com, put out her call for designers, I immediately knew I wanted to create something sophisticated, but just a little weird. When she sent me Prairie Shepherds’ gorgeous wool, with the sheep head logo, I knew it was a perfect match. In this simple colorwork cowl, your little sheep will line up in a row, which they rarely do in nature. On the hills where I live, sheep, goats, cattle & donkeys dot the countryside, with an occasional chicken thrown in for color.
