The most common question I’m asked as a pattern writer is how to change the finished size of a project. For this hat I have drawn the design on multiple charts, 12 in all, to accommodate more head sizes. My original idea was for two different looking owls to be “wing in wing” around the hat. In order to alternate between the 2 different owl types there needs to be an even number of owls on the hat. For the sizes with an odd number of owls, I’ve provided charts with just the solid owl or the checkered owl. You can choose the one you prefer. I’ve also included two different crown designs, one with little trees and one with plain spiraling decreases. There are instructions for worsted and DK weight yarns. The tables on the instructions page show which charts to use for each hat size. You can choose any of the ones listed next to your size.

This pattern is suitable for an intermidiate level knitter with experience in stranded color work and knitting in the round.

Worsted-5 stitches and 6 rows = 1 inch on US 7 needles in Stockinette Stitch
DK- 6 stitches and 6 rows= 1 inch on US 6 needles
