Florence’s Winter Hat

A little hat for chilly days and cosy adventures.

Florence’s Winter Hat is a classic, timeless beanie featuring delicate garter ridges, a simple ribbed brim and a softly rounded crown.

Inspired by my original Florence’s Summer Bonnet, this sweet little winter accessory is knitted seamlessly in the round using DK-weight yarn. The simple knit and purl texture makes it a lovely, relaxing project, perfect for gifting or keeping little heads warm.

It’s also the perfect little stash-busting project! Using only a small amount of yarn, it’s a quick and satisfying knit, with just enough texture to keep things interesting.

Finish with a fluffy faux fur pompom, a handmade yarn pompom, or leave it plain for a beautifully simple look.

Sizes

0–3 months (3–6 months) 6–12 months (1–2 years) 2–3 years

Yarn

DK-weight.
The original sample was knitted in Rico Design Essentials Merino DK (100% merino wool, 120 m / 50 g).

Approximate yarn requirements:

• 0–3 months: 1 × 50 g ball
• 3–6 months: 1 × 50 g ball
• 6–12 months: 1 × 50 g ball
• 1–2 years: 1 × 50 g ball
• 2–3 years: 1–2 × 50 g balls

The 1–2 years sample used just 38 g of yarn, excluding the pompom. Other quantities are estimated. Only one colour is needed, with additional yarn if making a yarn pompom.

Needles

3.5 mm and 4 mm circular needles, plus your preferred method for knitting small circumferences.

Gauge

21 stitches per 10 cm on 4 mm needles in stockinette, after blocking.
