CONSTRUCTION

‘Flower Buds’ is a slightly elongated (goes down to ~mid-hip) short-sleeved T-shirt with 2-5 cm/1-2” of positive ease at the bust (you can choose 1 size up/down for a more oversized/fitted look).
It is knit mainly top-down with minimal seaming:

  • First work circular yoke flat sideways in garter stitch (using short-rows for shaping and creating the print), then seam it together at center back and work an applied I-cord for a neat neckline. Children sizes up to 6-7 years have 1 button at the back to go over the head easily
  • Pick up yoke edge stitches, add short-row shaping to raise the back for a better fit, separate for the body & sleeves, and knit them top-down in the round. Children sizes have a straight body, adult sizes have 2 silhouette options: straight or fitted. Moreover, adult sizes 3-14 have instructions for optional bust darts for a more anatomical fit.
  • Both the body and the sleeves are bound off with I-cord for a neat edge The pattern includes 2 color-blocking options (see pattern photos):
  • Option 1: main body and yoke background in main color (MC), Flower Bud motifs in contrast color (CC)
  • Option 2: main body and Flower Bud motifs in MC, yoke background in CC Moreover, you can choose the preferred orientation of the motifs: you can have the longer, or the shorter buds towards center front (it will be the opposite at center back) – also see pictures on the right.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS

YARN: heavy fingering to sport-weight in 2 colors: 1 main (MC) + 1 contrast (CC) (see yardages per size in a table in the pattern photos).
