This flower granny square is a charming take on the classic granny motif, featuring a bold floral centre that radiates outward into an open, lacy border. Worked in a single colour, the stitch detail really shines — but this design also lends itself beautifully to colourwork, with each round offering a natural colour change opportunity.

Size
This pattern produces one square measuring approximately 13cm x 13cm (5” x 5”). The pattern is written as a single size motif. To create a larger project, simply join multiple squares together — the possibilities are endless!

Gauge is not critical for this motif, however consistent tension across squares is recommended if joining multiples together.

Materials

  • 4.5mm crochet hook
  • DK weight yarn — sample shown in Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK
  • Approximately 25–30 metres per square (one 100g ball, approx. 280m, will make 9–10 squares)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure

Yarn Notes
This pattern uses a single colour throughout. If you’d like to work in multiple colours, you will need a separate length of yarn for each round or colour section. Yarn quantities will vary slightly depending on the number of colours used.

Yarn amounts are estimated. Personal tension and yarn substitutions may affect yardage. Always purchase a little extra to be safe, particularly when working multiple squares in the same colourway.
