Flower King hat is one of 11 engaging patterns from Penguin: a Knit Collection by Anna Maltz - a printed book packed with patterns, photographs, illustrations and stories, all inspired by penguins. Available from annamaltz and your LYS.

Five colourworked petal shapes converge to form a flower at the crown – a treat for those with an aerial view. The pompom is added for good measure and to be the heart of the flower. This hat is worked in the round from the brim up, starting with 1x1 ribbing. The colourwork chart is repeated around the hat. There are undeniably long floats so tips advise where and why to manage these. There is a lengthy section on making successful pompoms.
