The traditional mittens from Selbu in Norway are both beautiful and iconic. They have been developed by generations of knitters and their traditional techniques and intricate patterns make them immediately recognizable. The Flowers and Forests Selbu Mittens honor those traditions and incorporate some of the beautiful designs used in Selbu. They are women’s mittens in one size.

The mittens are made with the two-colour stranded knitting technique, and they are knit in the round using the magic loop method with fingering weight yarn on 2.25mm 24” or 32” circular needles and 2.75mm 24” or 32” circular needles.

The pattern contains both charts and written instructions. It goes into detail about the traditional structure and design elements of the mittens and also includes detailed instructions on how to read the charts. It does not go into detail about how to knit in the round or how to do stranded knitting.
