Fluff it Cardigan
‘Fluff it’ is a light-weight, vertically ribbed, oversized crochet cardigan made from two strands of lace weight fluffy yarn held double. With mid length sleeves, a rounded neckline and the option to add buttons, this simple bomber style crochet cardigan is made in one piece from side to side, with minimal sewing.
Skills Used:
Whilst I would class this as an intermediate pattern, it is a relatively simple crochet cardigan, made in one piece from side-to-side. It assumes knowledge of basic crochet stitches, techniques and terminology.
You will be crocheting in rows, holding two strands of laceweight yarn double. The pattern uses post stitches, chainless foundation stitches and slip stitches worked in back loops. Links to tutorials are included for special stitches and techniques used.
Materials:
You will need an 8mm crochet hook, or size needed to match gauge, and approximately 1500(1600, 1750, 2000, 2120, 2300, 2500, 2650, 2800)m of lace weight fluffy yarn. This is based on holding two yarns double, so if you are working with two different yarns, you should use half the amount for each of the two yarns: 750(800, 875, 1000, 1060, 1150, 1250, 1325, 1400)m of each yarn.
The samples pictured used the following yarns:
• The pink cardigan used: 8(8, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12, 13, 14) balls of Drops Kid Silk Unicolour - two strands held double, 25% Silk, 75% Mohair, Shade 62. 25g ball = 210m / 230yds
• The cream cropped version with longer sleeves used two different yarns held double - 2(2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4) balls of Isager Alpaca 1 Eco Line undyed, 100% Alpaca. 50g ball = 400m/440yds, held double with 2(2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4) balls Zakami Yarns Silk Mohair, undyed, non-super wash, 72% Kid Mohair, 28% Silk. 50g ball = 420m/450yds
You will also need 3+ stitch markers, button(s) if desired, tape measure, scissors and a yarn needle.
Sizing:
The cardigan pattern is offered in 9 women’s sizes, from XS-5XL, to fit bust 76-158cm. The cardigan is oversized with 19-27cm positive ease (varying by size) in the bust. The standard cardigan drops to the mid hip with mid-length sleeves which finish just below the elbow. Additional measurements and a schematic are included in the pattern.
Instructions are also included for the modifications made to create the cropped, 3/4 length sleeve cream sample, as well as general guidance for adjusting the fit.
The pattern is written in English using standard US crochet terms.
