This cuff-down sock pattern contains beginner-friendly combinations of stitches to create a delightfully simple sock! I’ve included video tutorials on my YouTube channel to help visualize the techniques for the folded heel and the special “rock stitch.”

The cuff includes a longer tab in the back to improve comfort. Short rows and wrap & turns will create the tab. The pattern along the front is easy to memorize and the special “rock stitch” is deceptively simple to complete, but creates a striking effect.

Named after the Flume Gorge in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire, the front patterning develops with a special knit stitch and the garter “steps” make counting rows a breeze. Recommended yarns for this pattern are solids, semisolids, and tonals. More variegated and speckled colorways will look great, but keep in mind that the texture of the stitches may get lost if the yarn is too busy.

Yarn requirements:
Fingering weight
Many shortie/ankle socks won’t require more than 50g of yarn, but if you are knitting an adult medium or large, or knitting longer socks, I’d suggest a 100g skein just in case.

Extra small socks will fit younger kids (approximately age 4+), and smalls are recommended for tweens. Measure your kiddo’s feet for the best results!
