Fly away home is the tenth in a series that makes up my Nature’s way blanket, and features a smiling ladybird against a white background. It can be knitted as a square in a blanket, used as a wash cloth, or the chart can be extracted and used as a motif for jumpers and other items. When knitted in DK weight yarn, the finished square measures 10 inches (25 cm); the ladybird chart without the border is 44 sts by 58 rows. Both coloured and symbol charts are provided.

Other craft(s) required, if any: Swiss darning (optional)

Tools: 4 mm (US 6) needles; tapestry needle; bobbins for colour work. For needles, size should be changed to match gauge (22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches (10 cm)).

Materials: Any DK weight yarn in the following colours: White (70 m/80 yds), Red (20 m/25 yds), Black (25 m/30 yds)

The sample shown was knitted in Stylecraft Special DK
in White (1001), Matador (1010) and Black (1002).

Difficulty: Advanced (knit, purl, more intricate intarsia)

Pattern Style: Charted; both coloured and symbols
