The school where I teach holds an auction every year to raise money. I decided to offer up a custom knit pair of socks and several students were excited about the prospect of getting a hand knit pair from Mrs. S. The winner was an 8th grade student and she chose the colorway. I knit up a swatch with the cluster stitch and she loved it! So, not only were the socks custom knit, they were also custom designed. I added in a little slipped, then cabled stitch in the center, just for fun, and a textured ladder on each side of the butterfly field. Finishing the pair as summer began gave me the name.

I used 62 grams, approximately 270 yards, for the smallest size. A test knitter working the large size, used 48 grams for one sock. Most 100 gram skeins of fingering weight yarn should be enough to knit as written.

Instructions are given to cable with or without a cable needle.

The main pattern is in charted form only. If you have any questions, please let me know! I’m happy to help.
