Flying Buttresses Lace (with Gargoyle Nupps and Gothic arches)

While this pattern uses traditional Estonian elements, the combination of those elements is traditional only in the sense that Estonian knitters enjoyed adapting, revising, and otherwise individualizing existing patterns. And, I am an Estonian knitter. So there.

This is not for the novice lace knitter. There are some non-intuitive elements involved. It’s up to you to decide whether to knit a scarf, shawl, or swatch just enough for a neckpiece. But, you’ll definitely learn some new techniques!

I adapted the body pattern from Haapsalu Sall (Siiri Reimann, Aime Edasi) and the knitted-on lace edging from Pitsilised Koekirjad (Leili Reimann). The wonderful Estonian provisional cast on is adapted (and ever so slightly revised) from Silmuskudumine (Claire Hallik).

This can be knit at any gauge suitable to your yarn. Though a 2ply laceweight is suggested, it will work with fingering weight, etc. Swatch.
