Folium Vitae means leaf of life in Latin. I wanted to show the growth of leaves in the cowl, from dark green bud through color changing maturity.

Worked from the top down in the round, the cowl is basic lace knitting.

The gradient sample was created with a gorgeous custom colorway from Dawn at Ozifarmer’s Market. I recommend contacting her for your yarn. You can find her on Etsy.

The pattern is both written and charted. It has been both professionally tech edited by cyndi1717 and test knit by some extremely helpful people.

Materials:

Yarn: 325 yards (297 meters) DK weight yarn. The gradient sample is shown in Ozifarmer’s Market 8 ply cotton gradient, 150 gram skein plus 50 gram end color. This sample worked one repeat of the neck pattern and used 355 yards.

The teal sample worked 5 repeats of the neck pattern and used 422 yards.

Depending on your gauge and number of neck repeats, you may use more or less yardage. It’s better to err on the side of too much yarn.

Needles: US 6 (4.00 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular

Notions: at least one stitch marker for marking beginning of round, more if you want to mark the pattern repeats, darning needle

Gauge:

23 sts and 26.5 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette knit flat and unblocked

Measurements:

Neck opening = 21” (53 cm)
Bottom opening = 50” (127 cm)
