New Knitalong Starting September 10. You must use Artyarns yarn to participate. You need 800 yards (2 different skeins), and options are Merino Cloud, Ensemble Light, or Rhapsody Light.

I designed this shawl for fall that would remind me of the beach, evoking footprints in the sand, and ocean waves. Bring the feeling of one of the most beautiful things in nature with you to winter, by knitting and wearing this shawl. You can use Merino Cloud (Wool and Cashmere) or Ensemble Light, or Rhapsody Light, or combinations of these. In this photo I am using Merino Cloud in 2 colors, 2234SE and 248 in the Brown and Blue version, Merino Cloud in 2 colors, 501 and 2264 in the pink and charcoal version, and Rhapsody Light in 320 and Ensemble Light in H3 in the blue version.

I try to teach new techniques in each knitalong--things that you have not tried before or seen elsewhere.

This one has some interesting things:

  1. a stitch pattern I totally made up to create “footprints” as though they were footprints in the sand. Requires yo, ssk, k2tog, p2tog, ssp.
  2. a second stitch pattern to create erratic waves which I also made up Requires kfbfbf, sssk, k3tog, p3tog, sssp
  3. one large triangle and one small triangle, to start, and these are squared off to create a large rectangle. This is an assymetric sillhouette that can be applied to other projects once you learn the technique.

Requirements: 800 yards total, in 2 colors (skeins), and you must use Artyarns yarn to participate. Are you in?

Hit “Cast On” and make sure to indicate which Artyarns yarns you will use. Once you have posted photos of your Artyarns yarns (these are not yarn photos from the internet but should be photos you have taken of your own yarn), add those and I’ll send you the first part for swatching. Other yarn options besides those mentioned here can be found at www.artyarns.com

We will start the actual pattern on September 10, and while there is no deadline for completion, you must start no later than October 31.
