This lovely fair isle cowl has a beautiful forest fair isle detail and narrow simple ribbing edging along the top and bottom. This is a great fair isle beginner project with the simple fair isle chart and no more than two different colours worked per round.

The cowl is knit in the round with 4mm (6US) circular needles (16” (40cm)). The blocked measurements of the cowl are circumference 34” (86cm) and length 12” (30.5cm).

The sample is knit with Willow & Lark, Woodland (DK weight; 50% wool, 25% alpaca, 25% viscose), 50 grams/175meters (191 yards), in:

  • 1 Oxford Navy (Colour A)
  • 1 Cherry (Colour B)
  • 2 Rolled Oats (Colour C)

There are endless potential great colour combinations and other types of yarn that would suite this pattern!

The pattern includes charts for the fair isle section of the cowl.

Hope you enjoy the pattern! Happy knitting!

This pattern is also available in an ebook as a set with the matching Forest Handwarmers for £4.99 (plus applicable tax) called ’Forest Cowl and Handwarmers’.
