I’m so excited to introduce you to another design inspired by the world of Skyrim. After finishing the Whiterun sweater, my fingers were still feeling restless and eager to play once again with chunky lace.

This new instalment takes its inspiration from one of the most remote regions of Skyrim (which sits in the far northern reaches of Tamriel), a land shaped by frozen waterfalls, icy lakes, and towering mountains. The scenery is breathtaking, and I knew immediately that it would make the perfect canvas for this next sweater.

It took me a little while to settle on a stitch pattern that could echo those shimmering frozen falls (and those ferocious dragons!), but once I found it, there was no turning back. The motif is a simple 10×20–row repeat: easy to memorise, soothing to work, and friendly for grading.

If you’ve knitted Whiterun before and loved the fit, you’re in for a treat as this design shares a similar construction. It begins at the back, then stitches are picked up for both fronts. Once those are complete, the body is worked in the round, followed by the sleeves, also worked in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up to shape the neckline.

The silhouette features a more fitted body to balance out the beautifully billowing sleeves, reminiscent of a Victorian-silhouette. But if that shape isn’t quite your style, you can easily work additional decreases in the sleeves for a more tapered look.

Because the pattern is worked entirely in lace, there is limited scope for modifications or additional shaping.
Like the Whiterun sweater, Forgotten Vale has been graded in four sizes, ranging from 75 cm / 30 in to 135 cm / 54 in.
