Fosslaug is a traditional Icelandic lopapeysa knit in létt-lopi.

ICELANDIC LOPI
The Icelandic sheep has developed through centuries of isolation and harsh climate. This has resulted in wool with unusually long outer fibres with tough and water-resistant qualities, combined with fine, soft inner fibers that insulate against cold temperature. Added to this, the yarn is produced only with natural energy from geothermal power, which makes a sustainable production of a long-lasting and functional material.

The Icelandic lopi yarn is produced in several different weights, both spun and unspun. This pattern is adjusted for létt-lopi, a 2-ply yarn. With a light wash after knitting, it makes a soft, lightweight but warm sweater suitable for both indoors or outdoors underneath a jacket.

FOSSLAUG
Iceland is full of natural geothermal pools, some of them happen to be just the right temperature for people to have a bath in them. Fosslaug is one of those hidden gems, situated in the northern parts of Iceland, in the midde of a horse field, surrounded by a river and next to a waterfall, and impossible to find unless you know exactly where to look.

GENERAL
This sweater is knitted seamlessly in the round. Pattern and decreases are worked from chart. The round begins and ends on left side of body, and on yoke on the left side of the back. When one skein ends, don’t tie the new skein on – join ends by felting them together. This will give you less ends to weave in, plus a nicer looking garment.

SIZES
This pattern is unisex. To make the sweater more feminine, add waist shaping or bust darts (not included in the pattern). For the right size, get the measurements of the intended wearer’s favourite sweater. The sweater also tends to stretch a few cm lengthwise after washing.
