This is a pattern for a small, square crochet doily made with a small amount of 100% mercerized cotton yarn, category 2 and a hook size D (3.25 mm).
Another option would be mercerized cotton thread size 3.

Specific yarn that I used for the doily shown in the photos is YarnArt Begonia.

The finished doily measures about 7 by 7inches.
