Each side of the Fragmented Cowl has a different cable motif and different pairs of colours in the cables. The intricate looking cable work lies atop of a squishy richly nuanced fabric that blends your four colours. Every pattern repeat in the project has a different combination of colours in the cables. Even as the colours change, every repeat is worked with the same stitch pattern. This is accomplished without carrying floats or using bobbins.

The Fragmented Cowl is initially worked in the round. A fringe is formed in the latter half of the project when the cowl is worked flat. Enjoy all the different ways to wear this cowl and show off the reversible fabric.

This pattern includes everything you need to jump into this innovative technique. You may also develop your skills first by trying:

I relied on Kim McBrien Evan’s expertise in colour to understand how the colours would interact for this project. Find links to our conversations here. Kits from Indigodragonfly Studio combine colours with the perfect blend of coordination and contrast so that every cable in your cowl will pop. Cariboubaa’s tight twist and 4-ply construction makes every stitch of your Fission Knitting a dream! Take a look!

Video resources are available for help in working the cables, working in 4 colours and choosing the colours.

This cowl is available in two sizes. Instructions for a tube-shaped cowl without a fringe are also given.
