Framed
Framed is a cross between a cowl and a scarf for those chilly days and winter walks.
It incorporates all my favourite knit night techniques; a cowl-like, striped garter section using silk/mohair or silk/alpaca held double, a tapering section of stockinette panels and an attached i-cord bind-off to bring it all together. Here is a chance to frame those special mini-skeins or leftover yarn scraps. Stick to the suggested quantities or go free-form for this lovely cosy knit.
It is knit sideways from end to end with gradual increases and decreases to allow for a cowl section and tapered ends which are easy to tie.
Framed is designed with the adventurous beginner in mind, incorporating striping and holding yarns double along with an applied i-cord bind off. A link to a video tutorial is included in the pattern.
Gauge is not crucial but you should be happy that you are achieving a reasonably dense, cosy material for the garter striped section.
Suggested yarn requirements;
A solid or tonal fingering weight 230m
B mohair/silk lace or alpaca/silk 210/240m*
C speckled or variegated fingering weight 300m
D solid or tonal fingering weight 20m
E solid or tonal fingering weight 80m
The two samples used;
A Cosmic Strings Merino Singles Penny
B Fyberspates Cumulus 902 Rust
C Cosmic Strings Sock Blend Oatmeal
D Scraps from Five Moons Luna Plus 4 Ply Solids
E Cosmic Strings Merino Singles Brick
A Five Moons Luna Plus 4ply Vintage Mauve Donkey
B Isager Silk Mohair 60 Prune
C A Homespun House Soft Sock Fingering Xenophilius Explains the Deathly Hallows
D Scraps from Three Irish Girls Springvale Mushrooms in the Moss Quartet
E Hedgerow Yarns Merino Singles Chartreuse
If you do not want to start a second 25g skein of mohair/silk or alpaca/silk, continue striping Section 1 until you have approximately 12m of mohair/alpaca yarn left. Save this for one of the framed sections later on. Continue striping in the fingering weight yarns only.
For just the written pattern instructions only print off the last two pages.
I hope you find this a relaxing, sociable knit !
