Framework Shawl.
Knit a shapely, wearble shawl in cozy garter stitch! This design works well with scraps or a self-striping yarn—color changes will both highlight the construction and show off the yarn—or looks elegant in a solid color.
The project has a nice flow. Construction begins with a top-down triangle shawl approach, and then branches off, so you’re never working over an interminably long row. The result is another wearable shawl/scarf with a soft geometric look—a little narrower in the center, with a neat flare at the ends.
Materials:
- 792-800yds or 2 440-yard skeins of fingering-weight yarn
- 1 24-48” circular needle in US4-6/3.25-4.0mm, or size needed for gauge (used to work flat)
- Tapestry needle
- 1 2.25mm crochet hook for cast on
- Removable stitch marker (marks center stitch)
Gauge:
Gauge is 18 sts and 40 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge—it matters more for yardage than fit for a shawl, though.
Measurements:
This scarf measures about 15”/60cm wide at the center. It is 89/2.26m long across the longest edge, and about 58”/1.47m long across the shorter one. The diagonal ends are about 23.5”/60cm.
