Welcome to the October 2021 Mystery KAL. This pattern presents a bit of a twist on a typical Knit-Along. There are five clues, which will be released once per week in the month of October. Each clue was designed blind by a different moderator in the Fingerless Glove Fanatics group. That is, we decided on a number of stitches and yarn weight for the design and divided up the design into sections. Each of us then designed our section with no reference to or idea of what the others were designing. The result, as you may imagine, is a Frankenstein-like monster of a mitt - you’ll love it, dahling!

Clue release dates:
October 1
October 8
October 15
October 22
October 29

For a more cohesive look, you may choose to knit your little Frankies in all one yarn (ho-hum). If you are more adventurous, or just like to change things up, try digging through your scrap bin and changing yarns with every clue - coordinate the colours or clash them violently according to your tastes!

What do you need? Well, fingering weight for the mitts. A mitt sized amount. Maybe 165 metres or so? Maybe more like 146 metres if you knit at a tight gauge… One of the clues requires a small (say two or three metres/yards or so) scrap of DK weight yarn in a contrasting colour to the base yarn. Beads. Beads are good. Lots of them (about 56, but opportunities for more if desired). Three of the five clues designate beads as the embellishment of choice. The other two clues don’t specify beads, but hey, this is a Franken-mitt, and if you want to throw some beads in there, go for it. You are also free to pass the beading right on by if that pleases you.

Other needs:
•tapestry needle for finishing
•crochet hook or dental floss for beading (or whatever you may use for adding beads)
•scrap yarn for holding stitches
•stitch markers for marking beginning of round, and possibly for clue 2 to track pattern repeats

Gauge. Ah, gauge is such a personal thing, isn’t it? Yes, well, you see, we all knitted different sized mitts, so gauge for this pattern is sort of a take your best guess thing. It’s fingering and you’ve knit fingerless gloves before, right? The mitts are probably going to fit someone, right?

Be sure to join us over in the FGF group for the knit-along. We’ll have tips, chatter and laughs as we try to make the craziest Frankenmitts.
