Materials
All weights are approximate and will vary depending on the brand of yarn you choose and how tightly you crochet.
For this wreath I used Stylecraft special Aran but any Aran/4 medium weight worsted will work for this pattern.

Aran Green (wreath cover and Hat) 120g
Aran Black (hat and beard) 120g
Aran Grey (bolts) 15g
Aran Parchment for the nose 15g

Small amount of toy stuffing for your gnomes nose and bolts.
20cm/8inches polystyrene wreath.
If you struggle to find an 8 inch wreath ring you can use a slightly bigger size.

Useful items
Stitch markers.
Stitch counter.
Darning needle.

Hooks required
3.5mm

Abbreviations
This pattern uses US terms and is worked in a spiral so using stitch markers is highly recommended. 
ch = chain stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
inc = increase 2 stitches in one stitch
dec = decrease. (crochet 2 stitches together)
FLO = work in the front loop only
BLO = work in the back loop only
Picot = Picot stitch, (chain 3, sl st back into the first chain) makes a pointy bit.

This pattern is easy to follow but requires basic crochet knowledge.
It is written in US terms but easy to convert to UK.
