Frankie is a fun, asymmetric bandana shaped cowl that is long in the front and short in the back. It is knit top down, starting in the round and then switching to short rows and knit flat before finishing up in the round. The pattern also features cables, texture, and simple lace that will keep you on your toes without getting too frustrating. I hope you enjoy knitting Frankie as much as I enjoyed designing it!

This pattern is both fully written and charted!

Techniques/Skills (Advanced Beginner/ Early Intermediate)

  • Knit and purl stitches
  • Knitting and purling through the back loop,
  • Knitting in the round,
  • Short rows (there are indications for when to wrap and turn, but it is understood that the knitter already knows how to make short rows)
  • Cables
  • Increases and decreases

Yarn
- Any worsted or aran weight yarn with good stitch definition will be suitable for this pattern. I used about 2 skeins (160 yards) of DMC Natura Just Cotton Medium Denim for the sample. I would recommend overestimating the yardage to 180 or even 200 yards to make sure you don’t run out.

Needles and Gauge,
- I used a pair 24” US5 circular needles to achieve my gauge. However, gauge isn’t too important to this pattern as long as you are happy with the fabric that you are producing.

A special thankyou to all of my wonderful testers!
