I have had a love/hate relationship with hats. As a “big hair” girl, sometimes curly and sometimes straight, I have always struggled with hats. I love the messy bun hats but the opening is right at the top of your head where you lose all your heat. And I live in polar vortex central… So I finally got so frustrated that I figured out how to finally free my ponytail.

This hat is simple construction. It starts bottom up with the ribbing and has a cable pattern with a special twist. The end result of this slit cable leaves nice openings for you to pass a pony through. Its knit in the round and the instructions are written, so no charts to read.

And once you get the idea on how to make a slit cable, you can change any cable to a slit cable.

This hat can be knit up quickly on a single skein of any super bulky yarn.
