Classic (French) basic rounded bonnet with a button strap

For newborn size / For 0-3m size / For 3-6m size / For 6-12m size / For 12-24m size
Gauge 4 in / 10cm – 21 stitch

I have tried the pattern with different kinds of wool, wool blends, acrylic baby yarn, mohair and cotton – it works with them all! You just have to make sure you get the right gauge (you will need to make a swatch and probably you will have to try several different knitting needle sizes).

Since this bonnet is knit flat, you can use any knitting needles you like. I prefer using ether long circulars, or long straight “afghan” knitting needles. For the button closure you will also need two small buttons, a matching sewing thread and a sewing needle. A stitch holder or a scrap yarn will also be needed and two stitch markers are optional.

I have tried to write down the pattern as easy as possible, and made many photos along the way to explain what might need some extra explaining – or just so you would have something to take a look at and to know what it should look like.
