Nancy Bush writes in the book, “I began the socks with
a decorative Latvian twist cast-on (which I
learned from Lucy Neatby) that makes use of all three
colors. The band heel allows the color pattern to continue
throughout the entire foot. Because the heel flap had an
odd number of stitches, I was able to work it in singlestitch
vertical stripes, which added a visual delight of
color and reinforced the heel. To continue the color
patterning to the tip of the toe, I shaped the toe in four
segments, working the shaping into the stitch pattern for
a kaleidoscopic effect.”
