This worsted weight blanket is quite light due to the open cable panels with plenty of negative space between the ribs. The side panel charts are easily learned while the center panels keep it interesting. As a lap blanket, it is wide enough at 40” (102cm) for two people to cuddle under. When the weather is chilly, it’s your perfect companion or an appreciated gift for a loved one.

It may help to have 2 row counters, one for the middle panels and one for the two side panels. A total of 12 repeats of the Middle Panel will give you a 72” length for the blanket requiring 12x113 gram skeins which includes the 1” seed stitch borders, but a less generous 60” length will require roughly 10 repeats and 10x113 gram skeins. The sample in the photos was knit with Briggs & Little Regal, which yields 113 grams per hank, or 272 yards.

This 11 page pattern has both charted and written instructions for the cable motifs.

Freydis is the main character in a new historical novel series by Melanie Karsak, Vinland to Valhalla. Freydis is the daughter of the berserker Eric the Red.
