The Frida socks are designed specifically with leftovers in mind: you only need a little more than one skein for the main colour, and just a tiny amount of any matching-weight yarn for those little declarations of love. In fact, these very socks showcase many of the leftover scraps from the other projects in this book.

Main Colour: Filcolana Arwetta (80% merino, 20% nylon, 210 m / 230 yds – 50 g).
55 (60) 60 g in the colourway natural white (101).
Or 230 (250) 250 m / 255 (275) 275 yds of fingering-weight sock yarn.

Contrast Colour: 20 (20) 25 g of fingering-weight leftover yarns.

Tip! You can also use yarns other than sock yarn for the colourwork. Try how mohair looks on the leg!

Other yarn options include Lana Grossa Meilenweit 100 Merino or any fingering-weight yarn. No reinforcement is needed in the contrast colour yarn.

The socks are worked using the magic loop technique, but if you prefer DPNs, magic loop needle 1 corresponds to DPNs I and II and needle 2 to DPNs III and IV. Distribute the stitches evenly.

CONSTRUCTION

The socks are worked toe-up using the magic loop technique in stranded colourwork. The socks are worked in this direction because stitches knitted from the bottom up create cleaner, more beautiful letters. This also ensures that the word “love“ fits vertically three full times without being cut off, even if your socks differ in length from the sample pair. The socks feature a short-row heel, and the beginning of the round is at the side of the sock, not at the back as usual.
