With a sweet face, spiraling horns, and delightfully rotund body, Friendsheep transforms novelty and textured yarns into sweet, fleecy little friends. If you’ve been looking for a project to make the most of the Fun Fur languishing at the bottom of your stash, this project is just the ticket.

Fair warning, Friendsheep is so darn cute you won’t want to stop after the first one. Knit an entire flock and swap with your sheep-loving friends!

You can fill your sheep with cedar, lavender, or your preferred moth-proofing agent to make a sachet to keep with your stored knits to prevent nibbling insects. Now that’s a good friend!

Important note: Friendsheep is for decorative purposes only. This item is not a toy, and the design does not meet any safety standards for toys. The pattern is provided on an “as is” basis, therefore the risk of the quality and performance of the design lies with the buyer.

About this Pattern
Skill Level: Beginner / Intermediate. Pattern is basic, but the legs and face are a little fiddly. Experience knitting with dpns is helpful.

Skills Needed: Knit on dpns in the round, kfb, ssk, k2tog, backward loop cast on, and i-cord.

Finished Size: Orange sample is 14.5 inches / 36 cm in circumference. Purple sample is 16 inches /40 cm in circumference. The size of your sheep will vary depending on your yarn and gauge.

Yarn: MC - 50 y / 45 m of textured yarn (e.g. fluffy, furry, eyelash) which can be knit slightly tighter than normal on 4.0 mm / size 6 dpns. CC1 - 25 y / 22 m of sport weight for face and legs. CC2 - 10 y / 9 m of sport weight yarn for horns.

Orange sheep: MC - Ice Yarns Eyelash, CC1 - Infinite Twist Helix in Sunflower, CC2 - Infinite Twist Helix in Meringue. Purple sheep: MC - Vero Moda Flurry, Color 249, CC1 - Infinite Twist Helix in Graphite, CC2 - Infinite Twist Helix in Dovecote.

Needles: 4.0 mm / U.S. size 6 DPNs for body, 2.75 mm / U.S. size 2 DPNs for
legs, face, and horns.

Gauge: 12 - 16 sts and roughly 28 rows over 4 inches / 10 cm. A range is provided because it’s nearly impossible to check your gauge in many textured yarns because you can’t see individual stitches. Gauge of orange sample is 15 sts over 4 inches / 10 cm, gauge of purple sample is 12 sts over 4 inches / 10 cm. Both samples were knit on 4.0 mm needles.

Notions: At least one locking stitch marker, yarn needle, 9 mm gold cat-pupil safety eyes, stuffing of your choice, and embroidery floss for stitching nose.
