Froggo the Frog
PATTERN: TOP-DOWN / LEVEL: BEGINNER-INTERMEDIATE
Create your own Froggo the Frog with this seamless design—perfectly sized to chill on top of the matching Lily Pad coaster!
For this project you’ll need:
Suggested materials:
- 3.5 mm crochet hook with medium weight yarn (4/Worsted) in the colour of your choice for Froggo’s body and a contrasting colour for it’s heart-shaped belly (optional)
- A small piece of black yarn for embroidering the mouth and pink yarn for the cheeks
- 9 mm round safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stuffing fibre
- Stitch marker
Yarn information:
For this project, I used:
- Medium weight yarn (4/Worsted) Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo 100% acrylic from Yarnspirations
- Medium weight yarn (4/Worsted) Sudz Solids 200 100% cotton from Estelle Yarns
My abbreviations (based on US terms):
- MR - magic ring
- CH - chain
- ST - stitch
- SL ST - slip stitch
- SC - single crochet
- INC - increase (2sc in the same st)
- DEC - decrease (sc 2 together)
- DC - double crochet
- TR - treble crochet
- TR BOB - treble crochet bobble stitch (This is a bobble stitch with 2 yarning overs before inserting the hook in the st, as if you’re going to do a treble stitch: wrap the hook on the yarn twice, insert the hook into the next st, yarn over and pull it through, yarn over and pull it through 2 loops, yarn over and pull it through 2 loops again. Repeat it 4 more times and you should have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull it through all 6 loops.)
- ( )xNUMBER - number of times you have to repeat everything inside the brackets
- square brackets - total number of stitches on the row
Tips:
- If you’re unfamiliar with any crochet stitches used in this pattern, try searching YouTube for “stitch name + tutorial.” You’ll find plenty of beginner-friendly, detailed video guides.
- Rows without a mention of a chain between them are worked in continuous rounds. To keep track, use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of each row.
- In crochet, yarn over (YO) and yarn under (YU) refer to how the yarn is wrapped around the hook when making stitches. Yarn over (bringing the yarn over the hook from back to front) is the standard technique and is used throughout all my patterns unless stated otherwise. Yarn under (bringing the yarn under the hook from front to back) creates tighter stitches and a firmer fabric. Using yarn under instead of yarn over may result in slight differences, such as a smaller final piece, more visible slip stitches, and a firmer, less soft texture.
