From Normandy to Brittany was indeed inspired by the Atlantic coastline. The rolling dunes, the crashing of the waves, and the sharp cliffs definitely left their imprint on my knitting while I was traveling from beautiful Normandy, past Mont St. Michel, Omaha Beach and other historical landmarks, down to the breathtaking and wild Breton landscape.

Not everyone will have the chance to see these beautiful places, but you can invite the spirit of the rugged but stunning French coast right into your home by knitting your own trip with the From Normandy to Brittany shawl.

From Normandy to Brittany can be knitted with almost any yarn: solids, semi solids, tip dyed yarns, and color gradients. The pattern works especially well with very long color gradients. There are many different indie dyers who offer long color gradients at the moment, but if you need some help I’ve added a list below. I highly recommend Wollbonbon Merino 4 ply which you can order at wollbonbon.de. It is a wonderful yarn to knit with and the color gradients are just amazingly beautiful.

The original shawl is made with two different yarns, however, because it is knitted in tiers, you can use more different colors or just one yarn with a long color gradient. Whichever color combination you choose, it is important to be able to tell the tiers apart.

From Normandy to Brittany is originally designed for fingering yarn. However, since it comes in three sizes you can use any yarn weight from lace to dk. When I knitted this shawl I used two different colorways of Wollbonbon Merino 4 ply (Gekko: 820y/750m and Blue Moon: 600y/550m).

From Normandy to Brittany is a fully reversible shawl with slightly different colors on each side. It is a modular knit, but there is no seaming involved as you will join all the modules as you go. All instructions are written AND charted, enriched with ample photo tutorials on the techniques of shaping and joining the modules. This makes From Normandy to Brittany a doable project for most knitters.

If you would like to knit this at some point in the future, don’t hesitate to get your pattern now as this weekend (21st / 22nd of July EST) it is on sale for 25% off the original price of only $5.99.

So grab it while you can!!!

Happy knitting!
