Crochet yourself a cozy layering piece which adds a touch of elegance to any outfit.

While sweater scarfs may look simple, achieving a comfortable and secure fit requires surprisingly precise sizing and shaping. Therefore, this sweater scarf pattern includes several unique features:

  • Individual sizing rather than grouped sizes.
  • Shoulder shaping for larger sizes and for those who fall between sizes.
  • An optional support feature that helps the sweater scarf stay securely on the shoulders.
  • Fit preferences and body proportions can vary significantly, even among individuals with the same bust circumference, and often even more so in larger sizes. Therefore, the pattern includes different methods for adjusting the sweater scarf to suit your body proportions and preferred fit.

Skill level: Intermediate (advanced if working with mohair)

Languages available: English and Norwegian

Sizes: XS (S, M, L) XL (2X, 3X, 4X) 5X

Fits bust: 75 (85, 95, 105) 115 (125, 135, 145) 155 cm

If you are in between two sizes: Choose the larger size and work the shoulder shaping explained in the pattern.

Yarn: Drops Alpaca (see the white sample)
or Drops Kid-Silk (see the dusty pink sample)

Hook size: 3.5 mm or the size needed to meet gauge.

Amount of yarn needed:
Drops Alpaca
400 (450, 550, 600) 700 (850, 900, 1000) 1050 grams
1336 (1503, 1837, 2004) 2338 (2839, 3006, 3340) 3507 meters

Drops Kid-Silk:
150 (150, 200, 225) 250 (300, 325, 350) 375 grams

In addition you will need:
Stitch markers
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Measuring tape

Yarn substitution:
You may substitute with fingering or thin sport-weight yarn, or lace‑weight yarn with halo (such as kid silk or mohair).
Drops Alpaca is categoried as sport-weight, but is on the thin end (167m/50g). Heavier sport-weight yarns might be too thick for this pattern.

  • Adjust the hook size to meet gauge.
  • Yarn substitution may increase or decrease the total amount of yarn required.

Regular scarf version
The pattern also includes instructions to make a regular scarf, either with picot edging or fringes.

Amount of yarn needed for an approx. 165 x 20 cm scarf (with fringes):
250g of Drops Alpaca
