A warm and toasty winter hat with an interesting but easy chevron pattern using only knits and purls. Wear it snuggly or slouchy. Directions for both Adult Size and Youth/Child Size, with the size difference made by just changing the needle size used.

Knit in the round, this pattern is written for circular needles but you can easily adapt it to DPN. The first section is simple 2x3 ribbing. Then, follow the chart or written directions to knit the main section of the hat.

Sizes: Use size US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles with a 16-inch cable to make a child or teen hat, or use Size US 8 (5 mm) circular needles with a 16-inch cable to make the Adult hat

Notions

  • Tapestry needle
  • 7 ring-style stitch markers, with 1 ring marker being distinctively different to mark the beginning of the round. The other 6 may be alike or similar and will be placed between your pattern repeats.

Yarn requirements:
Hat takes 170 yards or less, or up to 85 grams of yarn, which varies depending on which size you make. If desired, you may attach a pom pom, I used one made or faux fur. If making a pom pom from project yarn, additional yardage required and is not included in the yardage reported here.
