This lovely shawl features a very old lace pattern. In Barbara Walker’s book it is called Frosted Flowers but there is some debate about this. Regardless, it is one of my favourite lace patterns and it is placed on the bottom of this small shawl. The cast on is at the bottom and after a few garter rows the lace begins. Although the pattern has twenty four rows, there are actually only eight different rows, most are repeats. After the lace portion is completed, using German Short Rows you create a curved stockinette stitch upper shawl portion and end with a few garter rows.

The finished measurements are 13 inches at the deepest point and 65 inches long/wide. The pattern could be easily modified.

The yarn used in the original shawl is Ella Rae Lace Merino (two skeins). You could substitute another fingering weight yarn of your choice but you require a minimum of 750 yards. The needle used was a 3.25mm circular needle, 32 or 40 inches.
