Difficulty: Advanced Beginner/ Medium
Comfortable with chain bumps, rows and round changes, increasing and decreasing, single, half double, and double crochet. Sewing required. Some embroidery or painting for added details.

I used a mixture of yarn from my stash; I made sure that all the colors of each bat were the same weight and WPI.
Strawberry bat is made with medium (4) weight yarn in Red Heart Love yarns. For a bat in one color I used just under 100 yards of Red Heart Medium weight yarn.

My finished bat is approximately 3.5 inches tall with a wingspan of 6 inches.

Bats can vary in size and amount of yarn needed based on the type of yarn used, hook size and personal gauge.

***** A NOTE ON YARNS*****
Almost all of the yarns I use in my stash have been given to me, so they vary widely. However I suggest the same weight, and if possible the same brand if you are buying new skeins, of at least 3 oz of each color. This ensures that each piece will match in size and shape as “medium weight” can vary from brand to brand.

Colors needed will depend on which fruit bat you choose. The pattern includes 4 body types, 3 different types of leaves, stem and vine. I give suggestions for possible combinations however you will see one of each body in a strawberry bat, pineapple bat, orange bat and watermelon bat.
