Wide and curved, Galax can be styled like a scarf or a shawl. The sideways edging is worked modularly, with increases creating the stitches for the future body section. This prevents picking up stitches later and makes for a smooth, lacy join between the two sections.

The self-published version of this pattern is entirely written and charted, with a schematic.

There are detailed notes for making it any length, using the yardage that you have, as well as working at a different gauge (to change the width), and using two colors for a different look.

Yarn HiKoo Kenzie (#1008 kale), 5 balls to make the sample size, 660 yards / 600 meters were used; you can make a slightly shorter version with 4 balls.

Needles 32″ or longer circular needle (to hold all the stitches); size US 8 (5mm) for the sample size/gauge.

This pattern was originally published in Interweave Knits, Gifts 2015 as Galax Shawl. It was re-released as a self-published pattern in October 2016. A charts-only version of this pattern is available on Interweave; it does not include the notes on adjusting size, weight, colors, etc.
