To start off, allow me to explain something.

I am not a Whovian.

This might seem puzzling. “But why, lucypevensie13, would you dedicate the time and effort to designing and making a stuffed Dalek if you are not, in fact, a fan of Dr. Who?”, you might ask.

Simple. I have friends who are Whovians, and when a couple of them offered to buy me the necessary yarn if I would knit them each a Dalek, well, it was hard to resist. By that, I mean that I didn’t think twice and agreed. They decided on a color scheme, got the yarn, and I sat down to figure out how to make two little Daleks.

It was here that I ran into a problem. I couldn’t find a satisfactory pattern. One was too hard to follow with the chosen color scheme, one was too big, one was a crochet pattern… I was having no luck. I just couldn’t find one.

Finally, I had had enough. “Forget this!” I said. “I’ll just make my own Dalek pattern. How hard can it be?” Famous last words.

This is the result of that moment. The pattern has kinda been test-knit, as I wrote the pattern as I knit the first one and followed (and proofread) it for the second. The red yarn is Red Heart Super Saver’s ‘Hot Red’, and the grey is Red Heart Soft’s ‘Light Grey Heather.’ I used less than a skein of each. The appendages were sewn on with ‘invisible thread’, which is basically lightweight fishing line.

P.S. To all of the knitting pattern designers… Y’all have my greatest respect and deepest admiration, ‘cause this stuff is HARD. I don’t know how you do it.
