Bundle up for a day of ice skating or a concert under the stars with this cozy waffle knit and cable shawl. Dedicated to one of the coolest places on Salt Lake’s Main Street, where you’ll find city adventures year-round.

This shawl is an asymmetrical triangle with a slight curve to one edge and a sharper increase than decrease. Once you get started, the waffle stitch and cable pattern is extremely intuitive and memorizable!

Gauge

24 stitches x 28 rows per 4” in blocked stockinette.

Gauge is not important for shawl fit; however, it may impact the yardage (amount of yarn you use) or final shawl measurements.

Yarn
This pattern was designed for a rustic fingering weight yarn, preferably multi-ply. The sample was knit in Birch Hollow Fibers Sojourner Sock yarn, a gorgeous, lofty base with a textured hand. Colorway shown: Oatmeal.

Don’t forget to check out Birch Hollow Fibers at Indie Untangled Everywhere 10/15 - 10/18!

I recommend a 2-4 ply non-superwash fingering weight base, with or without nylon, for this shawl. I do not recommend a single-ply yarn for this pattern.
