This sweater is part of what I could call “the leftovers collection”! In my attempt to make use of my leftovers (one of my latest goals is to use at least partially my stash before buying new yarn) and to create designs that are easily replicable with leftovers you might have in your stash, I designed Galùa, a top down circular yoke sweater with a beautiful and unusual colourful yoke. Let’s combine all the colors you want to create your own Galùa.
Worked seamlessly from the top down, the sweater begins with short rows to shape the back neck, then the circular yoke is worked before the sleeves and body are separated and completed in the round. The relaxed fit and clean lines make it an ideal everyday sweater, equally at home with jeans for a casual walk or layered over a dress on cooler days.
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10), corresponding to finished bust measurements 32 (34.25, 38, 40.25, 43.25, 47.25, 51, 55.25, 58, 61.25)“ / 80 (85.5, 95, 101, 109, 118, 127.5, 138, 145, 153) cm.
Approx. 0-2” / 0-5 cm positive ease recommended at bust.
Shown in size 2 with approximately zero ease.
Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rnds = 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch with larger needles, after wet blocking.
Materials
Yarn: DK weight yarn in the following quantities for MC: 601 (656, 722, 766, 875, 951, 1040, 1094, 1148, 1203) yds / 550 (600, 660, 700, 800, 870, 950, 1000, 1050, 1100) meters.
For each yoke color stripe, consider to use approx. 49 (49, 55, 55, 55, 71, 71, 71, 71, 71) yds / 45 (45, 50, 50, 50, 65, 65, 65, 65, 65) m (this quantity includes a good amount of buffer).
Please consider that these quantities are only estimated and any difference in gauge or modification to measures may affect the needed yardage.
Yarn used in the sample:
Laines du Nord Merino Yak (70% Merino Wool, 15% Alpaca, 15% Yak; 115 m (126 yds) / 50 gr; colours: 7 (petrol) for MC; for the contrasting colors, I used various leftovers from previous projects.
Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm) and size 5 (3.75 mm): 16” / 40 cm and 24” / 60 cm or longer circular for Body; US size 5 (3.75 mm): DPNs or 40” / 100 cm circular for Sleeves.
Notions: cable needle (optional); removable markers; waste yarn; tapestry needle.
