Inspired by the intricate spiral and swirl carvings found on a rock at Gardom’s Edge in England’s Peak District, this sweater centres around striking cable motifs that echo the ancient, probably Neolithic, patterns. Designed with cable enthusiasts in mind, it features a straightforward drop-shoulder construction that allows the rhythmic cable patterns to take centre stage. Subtle sleeve-cap shaping enhances the fit, while the abundance of cables provides an engaging and rewarding knitting experience.

Needles: US 3 / 3.25 mm needles for hem and cuff ribbing, US 6 / 4 mm needles for main body, US 3 / 3.25 mm 24” / 60 cm circular needle for neckband.  Note! Except for the neckband, the garment is worked flat, in pieces, so straight needles could be used for the body and sleeves.

Notions: Cable needle, stitch markers, stitch holders.

GAUGE
28 sts x 31 rows to 4” / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in Cable Patt, after blocking. The 30-st Cable Patt panel measures 4.25” / 10.5 cm.

NOTES
This cabled sweater is worked flat in pieces from the bottom up and seamed together. Cables and rib are worked throughout the body and sleeves. On the body, a 30-st, 32-row Cable Patt panel repeat is worked. The classic drop-shoulder silhouette is complemented by a gently shaped sleeve cap for a comfortable fit. Stitches for the neckband are picked up around the neckline and worked in 2 x 2 Rib, with subtle shaping at the shoulders helping it sit neatly.
